VN Index Resumes Losing Track on Lack of Supportive News

The benchmark VN Index gave up 1.24 points or 0.26% to 463.52. Volume squeezed to 36.7 million shares traded for VND1.063 trillion compared to 42.9 million shares traded for VND1.293 trillion on August 16. The lower volume indicated that caution increased but it should be noted that the market closed at the high of the day and the level 460 was still firm.

Vietnamese stocks resumed the losing track on August 17 as bottom fishing efforts faded on lack of supportive news and liquidity was still weak.

There was a doldrums of headlines this morning and the experts said that the banking story will continue to dominate the markets this week and the liquidity is not expected to improve soon.

The market opened in the red as a kind of correction for yesterdays over excitement. Volume reached over 4 million shares indicated that many sellers really wanted to exit. The market went on slowly and the buying interest helped pare the market loss but could not save the market from a losing session.

Market breath was narrow with 54 gainers, 161 losers and 43 flat stocks, including 13 ceiling gainers and 13 floor losers. On this bourse, daily trading limit is capped at 5% each side.

STB was the most active stock with 1.5 million shares traded, closing up 0.6 % to VND16,000.

VSH ranked second in the list with 1.4 million shares traded, jumping 2.5% at VND12,300.

HTV was in the third place with 1.2 million shares traded, closing down 0.52% to VND38,200.

SSI and REE followed with 1 million shares and 0.97 million shares traded, respectively, both were losers.

Foreigners boosted their buying on the southern bourse today on the market dip, their net buying was VND83.31 billion on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX lost 3.92 points or 2.8% to 136.19. Today volume fell to 29.15 million shares traded for VND729 billion compared with 34.58 million shares traded for VND835 billion on August 16.

The market recorded 105 gainers, 181 losers including 15 ceiling gainers and 16 floor losers. On this bourse, daily trading limit is capped at 7% each side.

PVX were the most active stocks on the bourse with 4. million shares traded, closing down 0.84% to VND23,700.

VCG was in the second place with 1.95 million shares traded, adding 6.47% at VND24,700.

KLS ranked third in the list with 1.8 million shares traded, falling 1.27% to VND15,500.

Today foreign players were net buyers of VND1.84 billion of shares on this smaller cap bourse.
